Sienais a remarkable medieval town in the Chianti region that will enchant you with its magical atmosphere. Situated 322 m.above sea level in the heart of Tuscany, this town is built on three hills, maintaining intact its medieval appearance characterized by narrow winding streets and noble buildings. While Florence ,its historical rival, saw its greatest flourishing during the Rennaissance, Siena's artistic glories are largely Gothic. A great example is its Cathedral with a magnificient facade of white,green,and red polycrome marble. From the Cathedral you can easily walk to Piazza del Campo one of the most beautiful medieval squares in Italy where twice a year (on 2 July and 16 August) Siena celebrates the "Palio" a wild horse race, a medieval exhibition which survived through the sheer tenacity of Sienese traditionalism. Museums, Curches, Abbey and Castels can be visited, where you can admire artistic works most famous artist of Siena such as Duccio di Boninsegna, Jacopo della Quercia,Nicola Pisano,Sodoma and many others.
Our tour continues on to Monteriggioni, discovering the most perfect and wonderful walled medieval stonghold. First raised in 1203 as a forward defensive position against Florence, the walls and towers today are a magnificent example of such a fortified bastion in Tuscany; then we reach San Gimignano. This stunning town marked by 17 soaring towes is a testimony to the rich past and feudal wars of this area. Stroll the ancient streets and admire the breathtaking Tuscan countryside and while you're at it this is the perfect place for a "gelato"(ice cream).
